One of the FIM’s most majestic instruments is the Lady Barton Theatre Organ, housed in the MacArthur Recital Hall. The organ came from the Capital Theatre in downtown Flint where it provided music for silent movies in the 1920s and early ‘30s. Today, the Flint Theatre Organ Club keeps the grandeur of that bygone era alive by performing on and maintaining this musical gem.
Flint Theatre Organ Club members were responsible for moving the organ to the MacArthur Recital Hall, where it is now located, and restoring it to its original elegance. Meetings are held the third Sunday of each month (August through May). Members organize practices for those interested in performing on the Lady Barton Organ, as well as social outings to see other theatre pipe organ installations in the area.
Club members also hold a number of performances that support the FIM, including participation in the annual Holiday Walk.
